American Excess (Consumo Cuidado)

U.S. citizens live in a society highly influenced by consumerism. Begining with TV ads, luxury magazines and today's internet campaings, these citizens work during long days to have access to these promoted and very seductive goods like cars, clothes, houses, food, accesories or anything that money can buy. The famous term "American Dream" surrounds this consumer culture, revealing an strange obsession that this citizens have over any promoted good in a supermarket, a shopping center or specially in TV.

The pulp of this consumerism resumes in just one day: the famous Black Friday. This is the Friday before the Thanks Giving Day. The day known as the begining of the holidays. The night before the Black Friday TV channels are invaded by ads promoting the sales and rebates that are going to be available on this day. Walmart, JC Penny, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Best Buy, Radioshack and a large list of superstores announce products at very low prices for a limited amount of time. The stores open at 4:00 am announcing that promotions last until 11:00 am or until the products are sold. Thousands of americans go out to the streets to wait in lines to have access to these rebates looking for their favourite products. This day reflects then in the day before Christmas. This photo essay is a little sample that documents the commercial excess seen in the United States of America.
